13% cared for a set of twins

HOW LONG DO NANNIES STAY ON THE JOB:
47% had been with their current employer for less than 1-year
26% had been with their current employer for 1 to 2 years
10% had been with their current employer for 2 to 3 years
7% had been with their current employer for 3 to 4 years
5% had been with their current employer for 5 to 7 years
5% had been with their current employer for more than 7 years
HOW MUCH DO NANNIES EARN PER WEEK:

HOW MUCH DO NANNIES EARN IF THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OVERNIGHT CARE:
20% said they receive $100 per night additional compensation
17% said they receive $50 per night additional compensation
15% said they receive no additional compensation
12% said they receive $75 per night additional compensation
6% said they receive $25 per night additional compensation
30% gave longer explanations of circumstances
IF NANNY IS TRAVELING WITH THE FAMILY, WHAT DOES SHE/HE EARN:
32% said they have expenses paid but receive no additional compensation (Live-in nanny?)
8% said they receive spending money (see above comment.)
8% said they receive an additional $50 per day plus expenses
7% said they receive an additional $100 per day plus expenses
6% said they receive an additional $75 per day plus expenses
4% said they receive an additional $150 per day plus expenses

62% answered in detail regarding additional compensation for traveling with their employer family. Many live out nannies do not travel with their employers and many live-in nannies do travel but it is on their normal working days and may not receive additional compensation.
HOURLY SALARY:
23% earn $15.00 per hour
20% earn $10.00 per hour
15% earn $12.00 per hour
42% reported a range that would take into consideration: the number of children, the nanny’s level of experience and education and the geographical location.
BENEFITS RECEIVED:
72% of all nannies are paid their normal salary if their employer gives them the day off
57% of all nannies receive paid national and religious holidays
55% of all nannies receive paid sick days
32% of all nannies receive 2 weeks paid vacation
32% of all nannies receive use of an employer furnished vehicle
29% of all nannies receive paid personal days
27% of all nannies receive full reimbursement for use of their own vehicle
23% of all nannies receive 1 week paid vacation of their choice
20% of all nannies receive 100% employer paid health insurance
11% of all nannies receive a paid membership to a spa, gym, country club or health club

HOW DO NANNIES FIND NEW JOBS:
71% said they would contact a local nanny agency that places nannies in their area
54% said they would search the Internet for job-sites, on-line classifieds, and recruiting sites.
40% said they would look to local newspaper classified advertisements
35% said they would network with other nannies in their area
21% said they would apply with a national placement nanny agency
20% said they would look at local bulletin boards
HOW DO NANNIES GROW PROFESSIONALLY:
79% Research childcare findings in books or on the Internet
59% Read periodicals about child care and child development
29% Attend community college or learning centers
25% Attend meetings of local nanny groups
22% Attend professional conferences
13% Hold membership in national nanny associations
WHO EMPLOYS NANNIES:
68% were described as a professional couple
14% were described as a professional parent and a stay-at-home parent
9% were described as a professional single parent
5% were described as independently wealthy (do not report to any type of “job”)
3% were described as a nationally known celebrity (entertainer, pro-athlete, nationally known business)
2% were described as local celebrity (newscaster, locally well-known business person or politician)
